One of BPRO's goals as an organization is to move the eligibility profession
into an associate’s degree level program, structured to be compatible with the Classification revisions adopted by the
Virginia State Board of Social Services in 2007. The ultimate vision is to have the eligibility classification be recognized
as a profession with a four-year degree.
BPRO has met with the VDSS Training Manager and the Workforce Development
Office of the community college system and shared preliminary documentation. Both organizations were positive and supportive
of our efforts.
Our goal is to begin working with the Virginia League of Social Services Executives,
the State Department of Social Services, Radford University, Roanoke City DSS, the community college system, and the Bureau
of Occupation and Labor standards to further our efforts. Through collaboration with these other organizations, we hope to
identify common areas and work to achieve our ultimate goal of an eligibility degree program for new and future candidates,
as well as a certification program for existing staff.
